Before attacking an operation take a look at how much damage you can do to defences with your Gunboat Energy (GBE).
To find your Barrage and Artillery strength simply go to your Armory, and click the Blue info button next to the image.
eg: Artillery = 3,000 damage, Barrage = 6,000 damage, these vary according to your upgrades
So before attacking we see a RL that's got 15,000 health and you have GBE of say 52

Each button has different GBE usage, but these are the same for everyone:

Artillery (Single Bomb): 3,5,7,9,11,13
Barrage (multiple Bombs): 10,16,22,28,34,40

eg: to knock out RL (15,000 health) we need two Barrage's (2 x 6,000=12,000) and one Artillery (3,000) so in GBE that's 10+16+3=29
Our original GBE will therefor fall from 52 - 29 = leaving 23, but now you have one less defence to worry about. And remember if there are two RL's right next to each other you can fire between them and damage both the same amount so long as they are touching.

Other GBE usage is as follows

Flares: 2,3,4,5,6,7
Medic: 6,9,12,15,18,21
Shock Bomb: 7,12,17,22,27,32
Smoke Bomb: 2,3,4,5,6,7

It also makes sense to split between Artillery and Barrage as some of you might have noticed you can also take out the 15,000 health RL with five Artillery shots (5 x 3,000) GBE = 3+5+7+9+11 =35. (GBE 52-35 = leaving 17) Mixing it up will often save you GBE.

In that scenario it's best to use one Barrage(6000) and 3 Artillery(3x3000=9000), so in GBE that's 10+3+5+7=25, leaving us with 52-25=27 GBE
